Hong Kong Museum of History

Hong Kong is well known in the world for having an active and bustling city with modern skyscrapers, popular shopping areas, joyful nightlife and fantastic landscapes. The Hong Kong Museum of History is an important cultural institution in the island because it preserves the rich cultural and historical heritage of the area. This Museum was established in 1975, but unfortunately it was closed to be repaired. After many years the museum was opened in 1998 to the public.

Hong Kong Museum The Museum has a total area of 17,000 square meters approximately, and its construction had an exorbitant cost of HK$390M and the project was officially financed by the Hong Kong Central Government. The design of the building was in charge of the brilliant mind of Mr. E. Verner Johnson. Visitors can find the Science Museum right next to the Museum of History, forming a beautiful complex.

The Hong Kong Museum of History is a big example of effort, perseverance and dedication from the Hong Kong citizens. Locals have spent long hours collecting artistic items, processing a lot of information, conserving antique stuff and cultural objects that belonged to the natural history, ethnography and archeology of South China and the city of Hong Kong. That is why the Hong Kong Museum of History shows items and provides historical information that dates back to 400 million years.

The Hong Kong Museum of History is available from Monday to Friday at 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. The Museum also opens on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
